Move 2: Symptoms and Signs
 
How can you tell that someone has a learning disability? Well the seven common learning disabilities have similarities when deciding if someone has one, but they also have their differences. For each learning disability there are the general symptoms and signs, but sometimes the symptoms and signs differ with age. That is why in this move I researched the symtpoms and signs of each learning disabilty from the ages of preschool through high school.  
 
Symptoms & Signs
Auditory Processing Disorder: 
- hate loud noises
- hear things, but do not listen
- struggle reading
- hard of hearing, commonly ask "what?"
 
 
 
Dysgraphia
- struggle with writing
- trouble spelling
- avoid writing tasks
- they know more than what they write down
 
Language Processing Disorder
- poor reading comprehension
- shows frustration when they have a lot to say, but no way to say it
- difficulty understanding jokes
 
 
Dyscalculia
- trouble connecting numbers to groups of things
- struggle with mathmatical facts
- struggle with direction
- freeze when asked questions about math
Visual Perceptual/Visual Motor Deficit
- reversal of letters (ex: b for d, and p for q)
- turn their head when reading a paper at odd angles
- when writing their letters are very close together
 
 
Dyslexia
- speaking difficulties
- trouble sounding out words
- mix up letters
- reads slowly
 
 
Nonverbal
- poor sense of time
- misreading body language
- think people dislike them
- avoid their peers
